For more than 10 years the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Verona follows research
projects on karst phenomena of tropical and subtropical areas, in particular in the western
areas of the Chinese Republic (Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou)
The scientific collaboration which began in 1992 with the Guizhou Normal University of
Guiyang (Guizhou) and with the Science and Technology Department of Guizhou
Province has enabled us to obtain remarkable results on the study of karst environments,
which represent natural systems of fragile equilibrium.
The project, conducted in the provinces of Qianxi , Guanling, Du Shan and Li Bo, had the following objectives:
1. The hydrogeological and faunistic study of some karst cavities
2. Individuation of karst waters of particular importance and analysis of pollution levels using macro-describers
3. Analysis of the quality of water ambients, both superficial and anderground environments and of land hypogeic environments
4. Investigations on the water supply and consumption situation
5. Soil investigation
6. Analysis on wastes
7. Workshop organization and training of scientific and technical personnel
8. Announcement of the results obtained.
